Congratulations! You’re a brand new (or newly rebranded/refreshed/refocused) business owner. My little entrepreneurs are all growing up. I’m so proud!
So you’re sitting there staring at your awesome website and… now what?
See that’s the problem – there are a lot of businesses and professionals out there that help you design, and create, and get you going… but what next. Who picks up where they left off and says, “Here, let me help.” That’s where I come in! And I love, love, LOVE my job!! The hard part’s done. You have the idea already set and going, it’s just a matter of sharing and showing everybody how absolutely awesome you are!
And because I already know how brilliant you are, I know you already know how important it is to have a social media plan, and a good solid footing into the digital marketing that will send your sales and follower numbers sky-rocketing. You already know that your website can be the greatest thing since indoor plumbing, but if nobody knows about it and nobody can ever find you, it might as well just be an outhouse. (How’s that for an analogy? lol)
So, since you haven’t hired me (YET) to set up with a totally kickass social media and marketing plan. I’m going to give you a couple of tips to help you start marketing your website and making money while you’re searching through your schedule to book me of course… 😉
ONE: Don’t Ignore Social Media.
I don’t care what industry you are in, everybody is on social media. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, being a social butterfly is now considered a MUST for any business. Be mindful of the “native language” In general, social media is more relaxed and laid back than a printed letter, but each platform has it’s own uses. Facebook is good for longer communications and links. Twitter is perfect for quick updates and simple statements. Instagram leans more toward visual story telling. You get the idea. TWO: Write Great Content.
Information is what people use the internet for. So by posting regularly about your industry, you can quickly become viewed as a knowledge powerhouse and people will return. Remember though, when you are creating content, keep it clear and concise. Stay within your niche and demographic. Content marketing is essential in building the reach of your website. Great content also help keep you higher in search ranks and improves your SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
THREE: Use SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
As I just stated in number TWO, SEO is a big deal! If you know nothing about SEO, know this: this is the method that Google uses to rank webpages during searches. You want to be as close to #1 as you possibly can be. Think about it, when you do a search, how often do you go to page 2? page 3? page 4 or 5? Have you ever even seen what page 10 of a Google search looks like? My point is, if you’re not using keywords and ranking in the first page or two, nobody is going to see you, they’ll just redefine their search terms. SEO is the king of your online marketing. Treat it as such!
FOUR: Email Marketing
That does not say: Send Junk Mail. We are all bombarded day in and day out with trash email. Over 1/2 of the messages that come through my email I don’t even open. SWIPE+DELETE has become my best friend. So email marketing can be tricky. You have to find information that your followers will actually WANT to read, and then present it in a way that will entice them to open. This is where your Ideal Customer Profile will come in handy. If you can base your email message on what you already know your followers want to hear, you’ll hit a home run every time!
FIVE: Engage & Communicate
Get to know your followers and your customers. Not just for the 10 minutes that it takes you to write and email or respond to a comment. Yes, you should get to know and understand them as a group, but also on a more individual level. Know your Frequent Buyers: Know that Sally, who comments on every post that you mention #freelance, is working 2 jobs and wants more than anything to be able to stay home and raise her kids. Know that Billy, who reposts every Tweet that you talk about #dogsofinstagram just lost his best friend, Spike, after 14 years. Know that Jenny thinks you’re stories about #lifewithboys are hysterical and she shares them on every account cause she just loves making other people smile. Be considerate of peoples, feelings, of their lives, of who they are as people. Sometimes we forget that there are stories behind the hashtags and the profiles. If you can connect with those people, you will gain a loyal fan base that never, ever falters.
Now I know that these tips all work and that they’re great ideas (pat myself on the back) BUT I also know that implementing them is an entirely different, much larger beast. I know that the online world and digital marketing can be a scary and complex adventure. But I’m here to help in anyway that I can. Please, please don’t hesitate to ask me questions.
